Conmed Healthcare Management, Inc. Acquires Panhandle Correctional Care, Inc.

Texas Business reports:  HANOVER, Md.—Conmed Healthcare Management Inc.,  it has purchased the assets of Panhandle Correctional Care, Inc., a Texas Corporation, including its three medical staffing contracts in the Texas panhandle.

The contracts include the Randall County Jail, a 450-bed facility in Amarillo.

“This strategic acquisition expands our Texas footprint beyond Galveston to the state's panhandle,” said Conmed chief executive Richard Turner in a prepared statement. “It improves our presence in the state, which we believe will benefit Conmed as we work to recruit additional contracts in this attractive market going forward. We believe that Panhandle is a medical service company that provides quality care to its patients and exceptional service to jail administrators. This transaction is a perfect fit for Conmed and importantly, we are pleased that Panhandle's senior management will continue to direct operations.”

Located in the Texas panhandle, Randall County has a total population of approximately 121,000 in a 922-square mile area. It forms about half of the Amarillo metropolitan area; the other half is in Potter County.

Conmed has provided correctional healthcare services since 1984, beginning in the State of Maryland, and currently serves county and municipal correctional facilities in nine states, including Arizona, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
