Texas Business reports: HOUSTON—Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc. (S&P) recently completed construction of the new Jack T. Trotter Academic & Sciences Building on the campus of Episcopal High School in Bellaire.
The $14-million facility, designed by Jackson & Ryan Architects, provides 78,000 square feet of space for classrooms, science and language labs, performing arts and administrative areas.
Project work included demolition of a 1950s-era building and removal of associated utilities to make way for the new building, which provides approximately twice the space of the old facility.
S&P also built a new central utility plant for heating and cooling the new building and is large enough to accommodate future campus expansion.
S&P managed approximately 30 subcontractors for the project.
The campus remained open and fully functioning during construction of the new steel frame and brick building. The site’s highly expansive soil required 130 concrete piers for the building’s foundation.
Work also included new electrical, gas and water service, parking lot and courtyard paving, and landscaping.
The new two-story Academic & Sciences Building features advanced technology that includes wireless white boards in the 26 classrooms and touch-screen computers in the language lab. The two-story lobby will be used for performing arts events. The project was completed in time to serve students for the fall semester.
