Texas Business reports: An Austin cargo firm is participating with 13 other American firms in an exploration of Mexico’s safety and security business.
Freight Watch International of Austin, which monitors cargo from origin to destination, is participating in the Mexico City conference. Michael Camuñez, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Market Access and Compliance, will lead a trade mission of 14 U.S. companies specializing in safety and security to Mexico City and Monterrey, Mexico, January 30-February 2.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore Mexico’s rapidly growing safety and security markets and develop U.S.-Mexican business partnerships.
“The demand for public safety and security products and services in all categories has expanded exponentially as the industry has overcome the effects of the economic downturn,” Camuñez said.
The mission provides participants a timely, cost-effective and efficient opportunity to explore current business prospects in Mexico. The delegation will receive market briefings by industry experts, meet with key public and private sector decision makers from states and municipalities across the Central Mexico region, and participate in one-on-one discussions with potential partners.
Mexico is the United States’ third-largest trading partner and second-largest export market for U.S. products and services.
Since its enactment in 1994, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has bolstered the strong manufacturing industries on both sides of the border, facilitating an active exchange in parts and components along supply chains for various industry sectors. NAFTA is largely responsible for an increase in U.S.-Mexico bilateral trade, which went from $88 billion in 1993 to $302 billion in 2009.
This trade mission advances President Obama’s National Export Initiative which aims to double U.S. exports by the end of 2014, supporting economic and job growth.
