Texas Business reports: SAN ANTONIO—Satterfield & Pontikes Construction Inc. will build a Walmart Supercenter in Helotes, Texas.

The 159,000-square-foot store is being constructed on a wooded 18-acre site and will feature more trees, less signage and architecture in keeping with Helotes, such as a brown limestone exterior and metal roof canopies.

Architect firm Scott & Goble is providing design and architectural services for the $9.9 million project at the intersection of Leslie and Bandera roads on the northwest edge of San Antonio.

Construction work is proceeding under an accelerated schedule, with the facility scheduled to open early next year.

A unique project challenge concerns construction of the foundation support in the karst conditions of the limestone subgrade formations. Site work also includes the removal of contaminated soils. With structural steel frame and concrete masonry unit walls, the building includes a heat-reflective and energy-efficient thermoplastic single-ply membrane roofing system.

S&P has constructed numerous stores for Walmart, including Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets, and has become one of Walmart’s most reliable builders and a contractor of choice. S&P’s Walmart experience the past few years includes new construction and renovation of more than 30 Supercenters. S&P’s projects for Wal-Mart exceed $250 million and comprise more than 6 million square feet of space.
